PROPAGANDA by Andrea de Ranieri

Andrea de Ranieri was born in Pisa in 1975. He follows a versatile education, from architecture to design, from sculpture to painting. His is a research focused on the use of matter and its pictorial rendering.

The use of cement, wax and pitch, worked in different ways, have a double effect: the diversity of the materials make the paintings thick and deep, the interwoven brushstrokes intervene with the color to enhance the material. The enamels enter the depth of the wax, creating a seemingly chaotic whole but which brings back a sense of solidity and minimalist clarity. The predominant colors of its palette are all shades of blue, black and white, with occasional brushstrokes of bright tones like yellow, green and orange. Sometimes it also inserts metal elements, which, paradoxically, go to lighten the densely pictorial whole.

The works of De Ranieri find perfect collocation in the modern spaces of Podere La Chiesa. His painting so dense, material, articulated, is enhanced by the rational and clean architecture of this innovative winery. Andrea brings a selection of works from the last four years.

There will be paintings, where flat, waxy and oils appear on the liquid and pasty cement, with metal applications to enclose or enhance them, or with words and letters of his particular artistic alphabet. But also the sculptures of metal and enamel: none and linear, empty cubes and parallelepipeds that seem to defy the law of gravity, caught in apparent precarious equilibrium; others with round and articulated shapes, colored spheres that climb into space to form dynamic figures that recall large caterpillars or children's games, funny and dreamlike.
